Legon Street Houses (1994)

This economical project in Legon St, a backlane in Port Melbourne, demonstrates ideas that remain fundamental in MCR thinking. Firstly, it has a communal attitude with one single facade instead of three broken blocks. This allowed inhabitants of the three houses to feel ownership of the larger whole. The facade is based on the undulating roof of Antonio Gaudi's Parochial School in Barcelona, wrapped around the building and finished in little zinc tiles.

With a short width available, vertically is expressed through double-height living areas.
