The Quays (In development)
About
'The Quays' is a sensual counterpoint to the sentinel towers of New Quay.
The forms are generated from encounters between the curvilinear geometry of the plan and three-dimensional pixellations of form underneath this surface.
This proposal is both a figurehead to the series of existing towers and a seductive muse relative to these artist's solemn decorum.
Architecturally, the formmaking is composed from meshing rectilinear geometry with the sinuous perimeter offering moments of small scales of three-dimensional pixellated extractions at the lowest and highest levels of the towers as distant exceptions to the figures of the towers and at the lowest levels of the podium where the public can appreciate them.
This rectilinear geometry drives the direction of the permeable routes through the podium preventing a sense of monolithic sameness.
The curved forms of the podium embrace public space creating more interesting backdrops to exterior spaces and adjust to the variety of urban conditions along its length. This offers a variety of experience accommodating more possibilities of encouraging public life.
The architecture of the perimeter of the podium is informed by, and helps to define and give legibility to the adjacent urban spaces.
'The Quays' provides a major new frontage and potentially new perception of the Docklands.
