The brief stipulated by Government of South Australia for the ICCM Adelaide Competition sought to re-imagine and revitalise the internationally recognised North Terrace Cultural Precinct through an Integrated Design Approach developed by the Integrated Design Commission SA (IDC SA). MCR’s Master Plan incorporated design solutions that addressed public spaces, complex loading dock requirements, curatorial planning and infrastructure requirements, as well as integration with neighbouring precincts.

Over the course of the competition, MCR engaged with a highly collaborative and complex multi-stakeholder group that encompassed the diversity of the Precinct and its objectives. The Precinct comprised of the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the State Library of South Australia, History SA and Art Lab.

MCR also engaged senior custodian, cultural educator, designer and artist Karl WINDA Telfer of the Kaurna Nation, Traditional Owners of the Adelaide Plains region, to provide input in shaping the vision for the cultural master plan.
